NOSTALGIC CONFLUENCE – 2014
THE FIRST REUNION OF THE ST. JOSEPH’S HIGH SCHOOL MATIGARA
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.

St. Joseph’s High School Matigara, decided to form its Alumni Association in the month of March 2014. It formally came into existence on the 22nd June 2014, with a reunion of its past students, appropriately named “NOSTALGIC CONFLUENCE”.

The programme began with Mrs. Shyamaleena Ganguly, welcoming everyone present at the gathering, especially the Guest of Honour Dr. Fr. Cherian Padiyara S.J. Sr. Jacinta F.C. the school Principal, Sr. John Berchmans & Sr. Catherine the Ex – Principals and other members of school founder body. The present batch of class XII put up a prayer dance, and the lamp was lit by the distinguished guests.

Sister Jacinta, addressed the students, both young and old and said it was a ‘nostalgic gathering’ as the girls were back in their ‘Alma Mater’, recalling old memories. She suggested that we should work together to do something concrete for the betterment of society.

Sister Shanti , Vice Chairman of the Alumni Association, mentioned that the Association can arrange various meetings, gatherings, concerts, charity shows, fairs, social awareness programmes etc. She emphasized about Online registration and other activities, once the Alumni body is registered and further added that an AGM be conducted yearly.

Following after Sr. Shanti’s speech, Prasenjit Dey and his troupe from the Nritya Neer Academy of Dance, presented a spectacular dance recital in reverence to Lord Ganesha. Mrs. Sharmila Banerjee, a student from the first ICSE batch 1975, and President, student’s Alumni Association of SJS, reminisced about her school days. She spoke nostalgically about her first days in school, when there was only one building, and mentioned sister Gerard Majella, Sister Joseph Celine, and various old teachers with fond remembrance.

A lively band played some old nostalgic numbers, adding up to the excitement of one and all present there. Dr. Rajyashree Chamaria, Vice President of the student Alumni Association SJS, spoke on woman empowerment and emancipation, which was very informative and encouraging to the audience. The Guest of Honour, Fr. Cherian Padiyara S.J , wished all success for the formation of the Alumni and encouraged them to form a strong bonding and work well for social issues.

Ex students and sisters Rakhi Sarkar and Sakhi Goswami, entertained the crowd with a light hearted Hindi number. Following this, Mona Chowdhury read out the by-laws of the Association for the audience.

The programme came to a close with a Vote of Thanks by Nidhi Agarwal, followed by the school song, group photos, a ramp walk and a wonderful high tea sponsored by Rakhee Sarkar, secretary of the SJS Alumni Association.
